I received Samsung Galaxy Watch Active, just few days ago, the black one. I am still exploring it and all its features, i am and will be updating this article with all new finds and experience. I will start with design and then i will move the the working, features and pros cons. So now lets start this Samsung Galaxy Watch Active Review with its design.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active Review: Design
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active has a very compact design and light weighted form factor. The front panale shine with a 1.1-inch CircularSuper AMOLED Display with resolution is 360×360 pixels. The display is sealed on top of a metal case. The display is vivid and bright enough to be visible outdoors, it also has auto-brightness which handles the brightness well based on ambient light conditions.

The Smartwatch also features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on the display to keep it scratch free. After display, it has two buttons on the right side, the left side is blank, and at rear/ back it features a heart rate sensor. At the top and bottom there are strap holders which accept any 20mm strap. In the box you will get a charging cradle. One end of this charging cradle features USB Type-A and on other end there is a watch holder with wireless charging technology.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active is available in four color option to choose from: Silver, Black, Green, and Rose Gold. It also has eight strap color options: Orange, Light Blue, White, Yellow, Light Pink, Green, Black, and Light Grey. i received Black watch with Black strap. In the box there will be two silicone straps with different lengths. So we have to pick the one best suited to your wrist size. The straps are easy to snap on and off. The strap quality is also quite good and it feels like Apple Watch’s Sport Band. Overall it is a smartwatch with compact and light weighted design which looks good and feels solid.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active Review: Specs
After the design, i would like to move on Specs, UI and features of this smartwatch, in this Samsung Galaxy Watch Active Review. The Galaxy Watch Active is powered with Exynos 9110 SoC along with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of onboard storage. Samsung chooses its own Tizen-based Wearable OS 4.0, not Google’s Wear OS. Overall it is near perfect combination. The Smartwatch is fast and quite responsive. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active is IP68 and MIL-STD-810G rated with 5ATM water resistance. So you don’t have to worry about it before diving into deep water. The Smartwatch is also capable of tracking your swimming activity too.

The Smartwatch also has enough connectivity option like Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, NFC, and GPS. It can also connect with Bluetooth headphone, so you won’t need to take your lovable smartphone with you on runs. The Smartwatch needs a companion app called Galaxy Wearable (Samsung Gear)to work, and to utilize all its features. The app itself downloads an additional Watch Active plug-in to keep the phone connected to the watch all times. After using it for 3 days we observed that the Galaxy Watch Active pairs to a smartphone very easily. It also doesn’t have connection drop issue even not a single time we faced this problem. By the way we also need separate Samsung Galaxy Health App to check sleep details on the smartphone.
After going through the reviews on Play Store, Galaxy Wearable (Samsung Gear) app is facing some problem with on Android 10. Users are complaining about battery consumption and No data sync problems. Samsung need to short out all the problem soon.
Now lets move on the battery, The Smartwatch has a 230mAh battery, as per officials it lasts around 45 hours on a single charge, but i charged it almost 48 hours before and still it has some juice remaining. I am Using Nokia 6.1 Plus it pairs very quickly and delivers all data without any problem.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active Review: Features
The Smartwatch comes with a few watch faces pre-installed, we can customise them and also we can download more from the Galaxy Store on the watch. It’s screen goes off immediately when you lower your hand to save power. The UI is very simple and easy to use and navigate. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active have a lot of tracking features.
The watch can track walks, runs, hikes, cycling, swimming, sleeping, and a lot more activity. It can also help you in your exercise because It is also capable to track specific exercises such as arm curls, dead-lifts, jumping jacks, yoga, and many more. The Smartwatch also has continuous heart rate tracking feature, which logs your heart rate throughout the day. It also has raise-to-wake feature, and can also monitor water and coffee consumption. Additionally it prompts you to move if you have been inactive for a long time.
We weren’t able to monitor blood pressure through Galaxy Watch Active. The same problem is also noticed in Samsung Galaxy Watch Active Review at gadgets.ndtv.com. I thought this feature will be one of the device’s selling points, but No, it is not, at-least for now it is not.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active Review: Performance
We talk about design, specs and features and now we will talk about Performance of this smartwatch in this Samsung Galaxy Watch Active Review article. Lets start with the display again. The crisp AMOLED display is small but it works good, looks good and also it is responsive to the touches. You can scroll and launch app easily with it. Auto brightness feature works perfectly out of the box. The data of the display is clearly visible even in outdoor condition.
Not just display the two buttons are also very responsive and clicky. Upper button is only for going back in the UI, and the other one brings up the app list. When you swipe down on the screen a toggle/ switch bar will appear it allow you to change various settings quickly. By the way the Toggle or Switch Bar also has a Water Lock mode switch which disables the touchscreen. It is quite a helpful feature while you are swimming because water cause the screen to register input.
The smartwatch is good at alerting us to incoming notifications. We could select apps that would notify us on the watch. We can also reply to incoming notifications, using speech, emojis, handwriting recognition with a finger, or an on-screen number pad with predictive text input. Samsung’s Bixby technology will be used to reply using Speech, Which i found not the best choice. It also sometime behaves slightly lazzy, compared to Wear OS. Predictive input works awesome but long messages are not it’s cup of tea.

Now lets talk about the sensors and their performance in this Samsung Galaxy Watch Active Review, My Morning walk route is exact 3.6KM long and the watch reported 3.74km which i think is acceptable. I also tested step counter by manually counting 1,000 steps and comparing with Galaxy Watch Active Step Counter data, which showed 979 steps, even my old mi band was more accurate in counting steps. The Smartwatch is integrated with GPS so we could see the path we took on a map after completing the walk. The Sleep monitor, and continuous heart rate tracking feature logs worked perfectly and showed almost accurate data in the app.
The exercise tracking feature is amazing and unique, It not only tracks your exercise and repetitions but also suggest you take a break before the next set and exercise position. This is one of the most helpful feature of this Smartwatch.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active delivers good battery life. As i said i charged it almost 48 Hours before and it is still working, and have battery for around 2 hours. So for a wearable gadget it is far better then others. The Battery Life also depands on use of GPS, notifications, and brightness of screen so it will be different for everyone. Fully Charge the watch using the supplied charging cradle takes around 100 minutes.
So Samsung Galaxy Watch Active is a nice nice wearable gadgets which looks good and works good. It has some good features and may be the best battery life. So We like it and i hope you will also found it lovable. With the same hope lets move to the pros and cons section.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active Review : Conclusion
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active is overall an amazing combination of a fine os, solid and compact design, and lots of features. Tizen OS 4.0 has a lot of features and functionality, but doesn’t have the same amount of third-party app support. The Smartwatch works fine and tracks our activity but still it is not that accurate. If we compare with its latest competitors like Fossil Sport, and the Apple Watch Series 3. Then you will find it better than Fossil Sport and Apple Watch Series 3 will beat it by a close margin just because of some different features and environment. So my final verdict is that If you wan a Smartwatch with fine accuracy and all-rounder functionality, and features then Go for it. And if you want more accurate Smartwatch there are very few option already available. Thank You for your time. Share your views and suggest me product using the comment section given below.
