Akaso v50 Pro Review By Sourabh Kumar at weobserved.com

If you want an action camera then there are plenty of option available in the market, but when you will search for features in a price range then the list of cameras will be short drastically. Yeah! We know, because we spent a complete week in this. So basically every action camera needs to have 4K at 30fps, it is a basic but must have feature of an action camera. Now here the Akaso V50 Pro certainly provides with 4K at 30fps, 1080p at 60fps and 30fps and 720p at 120fps and 60fps, additionally Akaso V50 Pro also has built-in electronic image stabilization which is a bonus. Now i will not go into specs very deep because i already listed more than enough feature above. But still i will repeat four things, which are an adjustable view, 2-inch touch screen display, images at 20mp, and accessories including waterproof housing, These are like highlight of Akaso V50 Pro.

Let me back in the Akaso V50 Pro review again. So when i personally unboxed it again, the first thing which impressed me was the premium look of the waterproof housing. Clear transparent box with a black lever head. By the way the complete case is held closed by by the same black single lever release.  It locks tight but you don’t need too much force to open the case. The lens part is also kept perfectly flat so it will be easy to clean when needed. On the bottem of the housing is the familiar GoPro style mount, so it also allow us to use almost any GoPro accessory with Akaso V50 Pro, if needed.

After opening the housing you will see two rubber like strips on the backside. These strips holds the camera tight while housing is closed, by applying some pressure. This small pressure game doesn’t allow any wobble or rattle within. Now after opening the housing you will also observe the overall quality of the camera is also solid. It has  grey rubber-like finished body which gives a premium look to the camera.

It has a very simple but easy to use design, on the side there are a micro HDMI, Mini USB and a microSD card slot, on the top there are two buttons, power/mode and shutter with wifi indicator. On the bottom there is just a flap for the battery. There is also a LED indicator just beside the 2″ display. The complete combination looks amazing and there is nothing cheap in it. I must say Design or look-wise the Akaso v50 Pro is a perfect action camera.

Now after talking about specs and design in this Akaso v50 Pro Review lets move to the UI and performance of this camera. The Aksso V50 Pro is really a beginner friendly action camera. The red button powers on the camera and the blue one starts and stops recording. You just have to tap at the right side of screen to access the settings and options. Now you just have to tap on onscreen simple options to do the changes. From settings you can also choose angle view like, Super Wide, Wide, Medium and Narrow View Angle and resolution.

When you tap at the bottom of the screen you will access the switch panel, where you will get switches for mic, speaker, wifi etc. If you tap at the middle of the screen then picture will be snapped. So not just with buttons you can also capture image by using the display.  The UI is Simple and user friendly. You can also do all the setting with the app on your smartphone. Which feels more easy and in this way you don’t have to open the housing time to time. Just connect with app and do all the changes with your smartphone. The Camera display is not very responsive so app is like a godsend.

Akaso v50 Pro Review Mode

Till now the Akaso v50 pro impressed me and i hope it maintain the same in the performance and footage quality. I recorder some videos and snapped some indoor + outdoor pictures with almost every setting and options combinations. And after checking them on my LG 24 inch Borderless Monitor, I found that the videos shot at 4K looked amazing. Exposure and dynamic range were all good, The videos looks slightly over-sharpened but fine enough for an action camera. The 4K Video is having a pleasing overall colour and saturation without any blur things we have seen in some cheap action cameras. The image stabilization also works fine but we still can’t compare with the GoPro’s HyperSmooth.

Now after checking the 4k videos i moved to videos shot at 1080p resolution. At 1080p it stills worked fine, with some noticeable changes like lack of definition and tonal range. It sometime looks like an effect applied by some face beauty app. Changing between 30fps and 60fps framerates at 1080p doesn’t provide any visible/ noticeable/ observable changes and improvement. So it is up-to-you, I found no difference literately.

Videos at 720p resolution at 120fps truly disappointed me, Even on a much low-res display like HP v185e the footage disappointed me. So it is my suggestion to avoid this resolution. At 720p videos will be unusable so keep distance from 720p. Still the 1080p is fine and 4k is amazing no problem with these two options.

Akaso v50 Pro Review : Conclusion

Akaso v50 Pro really impressed me, It is a pocket sized- and pocket friendly Action camera with solid build quality, really user friendly UI with appropriate options/ settings, and good video and picture quality. Videos at 720p resolution at 120fps truly disappointed me, but 720p is not such important that we can’t leave without. There are better resolution available in option which deliver the near perfect footage. So my final verdict of this Akaso v50 Pro Review is that if you want an action camera but can’t afford the GoPro or have limited budget or want a beginner friendly but quality action camera then Go for Akaso v50 Pro, it is amazing feature packed 4k action camera with all the required accessories and most important in half the price of a GoPro Camera. 4. Nice and very informative Article. I liked the part most where you included that at 720p the footage will be unusable. Very few blogs are there which publish the negative part of the project also. You are doing good. Keep it Up. Don’t become like Technical Guruji.
