Saregama Carvaan Go Review : Just two and half years ago I was packing all my stuff for 20 days and around 2500KM extensive tour of some villages for the same blogging work on Indian on Indian. I like everyone loves Listening to quality and lyrical music while travelling. And thus also prepare a playlist of new + old songs on an online streaming app using my Nokia 6.1 Plus. Then I realized that maybe a small music player with long battery life will be better for me because there are still electricity and internet issues in that part of New India.

On the next day, I was then searching for a handheld music player and suddenly saw an advertisement on Amazon that Saregama Carvaan Go is released today. I checked the specifications and price and ordered it on 18^th April 2019 after knowing that it supports microSD, Bluetooth and 7-hour battery backup.

After almost three months, on Sep 29, 2019, I published this Saregama Carvaan Go Review for the first time to share my experience with you. In those 2 months, I used it regularly. I analysed its perks and you will be surprised to know that It is still connected to my Bluetooth Headphones. I prepared this Saregama Carvaan Go Review with its specifications and also neat Pros and Cons.

After 2 years on May 25, 2021, updated this article by adding more vital details and experience of using it for around 2 years. And yes I was continuously using it.

Now on April 5, 2023, I am providing a very important update. And the update is that Saregama Carvaan Go had fallen from my pocket a few days back and now it is neither detecting nor playing those 3000+ classic songs that were stored in it. However, there was no external damage, and all the other features are working very well.

Saregama Carvaan Go Is one of the finest products because it supports external microSD cards, fit into packets, weighs just 88gm and has around 7 hr of battery backup. Thus it is portable and easy to carry and maybe that’s why it gets its name as Carvaan Go. The Carvaan Go looks like a miniature of a 90s music player or radio.

Saregama Carvaan Go Review

I would like to start Saregama Carvaan Go Review with the design and outer part then I will move to the work. It doesn’t look polished and modern but because of the full metal casing, it feels very solid and well-built. As I already said Saregama Carvaan Go looks like a miniature of 90s music player or radios but the rounded edges, matte finish and lightweight makes it really portable and easy to fit in a pocket. It is smaller than my 10000mAh ZOOOK PowerBank but weighs around 10%.

There are a total of 14 buttons (push-button switch) in Saregama Carvaan Go with a knob. Which has 7 buttons and the knob is at the front, while 6 buttons are on the side and 1 Power Button is on the top. There is also an LCD at the front and a hook at the top right corner for the strap. At the bottom there is a Speaker grill, micro USB charging port, and 3.5mm audio jack, unfortunately the micro USB port supports only charging no file transfer. On the left side, there is a microSD card slot which I feel is a TRP for this product. The back is blank with SAREGAMA Logo and copyright notice.

Saregama Carvaan Go has the favourites button above the scroller (knob), which automatically adds a liked song to the playlists when pressed. The front side buttons are fine but the side buttons are small. I also feel that volume buttons need to be something different from others, you will be confused later. Even engraved + – icons on volume buttons will be more promising.

Unlike the Carvaan Mini, the Carvaan Go has an expansive physical control panel with a knob which makes things and operations really easy. The LCD shows Artist Name/ Playlist, Song Name, earphone icon, Battery status (at top right) and mode (SD/ FM/ AM) Which also makes navigation really easy. The Overall look is so classy and cool. Saregama Carvaan Go holds modern functions in a really classical look.

I copied almost 300 songs in a folder and also pasted around 20 albums in separate folders in a 16GB microSD card and it really amazed me with the result. The best part of this device is that Saregama Carvaan Go reads the songs “folder wise” so if you placed a collection of your single tracks in a folder than your album list will be not messed up as some music players do. The device supports microSD cards up to 32GB which is more than enough.

There is also a wonderful collection of 3000 retro Hindi songs by various artists. They divided the Collection into:

• Artistes: 28 music stations dedicated to Bollywood legends like Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Jagjit Singh, R. D. Burman and others
• Specials – 9 music stations covering themes and moods like Romance, Happy, Ghazal, Dance Hits etc.
• Playlists – 50 specially curated playlists like Morning Walk, Inimitable Dev Sahab, Helen the Dancing Diva, Musical 50’s and others

Trust me, the collection is really old. I have even never heard over 20%. The collection is fine for those who belong to that era or love those songs but not good for everyone. That’s where the microSD holds your heart and gives you a better option.

A Music player needs to sound good, but the Speaker is of 1W and it is not good. I also feel that it decreases the battery backup of this device. Positive thing is that it also has the 3.5 Jack. The Provided earphone in the box is outstanding and provides really great and clear sound. I also used some other earphones, but the provided one is the best. The earphone also has a Volume controller slider which adds a plus point to it. The earphone is long enough, feels comfortable in the ear, and is so loud when the volume is increased to the maximum (0-25). In the box you will also get straps and some cousin’s earphone covers.

The Saregama Carvaan Go has a Bluetooth option with works fine, no complaints with that, the range is also fine. AM FM Function is also good and you will need earphones/headphones for it because the earphone works like an antenna.

Charging the Saregama Carvaan Go takes about 2 hours and 35 minutes, and after full charge, you can use it up to 6 hours and 30 minutes of runtime, which is good enough. As I said while using the internal speaker, the battery last about 5hrs 42minutes. After two-and-a-half months, the runtime decreased by about 30 minutes in both modes. So it is still fine, and in 3 years around it still provides a good listening of around 4-5 hrs.
