The boAt Rockerz 400 is available on Amazon at Rs. 1399 and has a rating of 4.1 out of 5 on Amazon with more positive reviews. It is available in Carbon black, black/red, and black/blue. For the boAt Rockerz 400 Review, we bought the Carbon black variant but the black/blue variant looks better in my opinion.

Design and Features

This pair of the headset is available in four colour options; Carbon Black, Grey/Green, Black/Red and Black/blue. All the other option has two colours except for the carbon black. We had a Grey/Green as a case study for this review.

The headband cushion which is a good addition at this price and the neon green finish might appear gaudy to some people. The slide bar for the headband is metallic while the headband and the earcups are in grey plastic.

The build quality of these pair of headset shows that it was built to a cost. The Boat logo was on both earcups. The right earcup has three buttons; the centre button is to power on the headset and also for play/pause while the other two buttons are for volume controls and skipping to the next track or the previous one.

It has a Micro-USB port for charging and a LED light which blinks blue intermittently when the headphones are paired to a device and glows red while charging. The left earcup has the microphone only. There’s an auxiliary input next to the Micro-USB port which can be used to connect the headset to a source with a cable. This helps when the battery runs out or you have a device without Bluetooth.

The Boat Rockerz 400 is comfortable and cushioning on the headband. It is not easy to adjust the two sides to the same level since the slide bar does not have ridges but thankfully, the earcups swivel and we could adjust them easily.

Moreso, the buttons are easy to find and convenient to use while wearing the headsets, they are just out slightly from the earcup. We also found the headsets to be light, the weight is 110g.

Performance and Battery life

Whenever you power on the Boat Rockerz 400, you‘ll hear a voice that says “Powering on, you’ve plugged into nirvana”. Once it is paired with a device, you’ll hear “You’re now connected to Boat Rokerz 400”. If you long-press the power button, you’ll hear “Adios amigo, powering off”. They may be annoying but there’s no way to disable them. It would have been much better if the status notification of the headset were just a simpler system of beeps.

This pair of headsets gives a good audio quality but is a bit brighter at higher volumes. The soundstage is narrow and it doesn’t have a very good separating instrument, but it is still nice at it Rs. 1,499 price. This headset leaks a lot of sounds; anyone sitting beside you will be able to hear the lyrics of the song you are listening to.

We also discovered that the volume doesn’t sync with the phone and there is an independent volume control on the headset. If you long-press the track skip/repeat buttons, it changes the volume on the headset and if you short-press, it changes the track. It should have been the other way round. It is really hard to fine-tune the volume since the control is inverted.

The Rockerz 400 could not manage decent separation between the electric guitar and the drum set when listening to somewhere | Belong by Linkin Park. This headset has a decent amount of bass and mids but the highs do sound shrill at a higher volume. Since the highs were manageable up to this point, we mostly used these headsets at 80% volume.

We used the Rockerz for watching a few movies and the performance was good. The noise-cancelling microphone is not really good on calls. The receiver on the other said we sounded distant when tested.

After 2 hours of charging, the battery life is rated at 8 hours of continuous music playback. The LED light glows red while charging and goes off when charging is done.

boAt Rockerz 400 Review Conclusion

The Boat Rockerz 400 is a very good and affordable pair of Bluetooth headsets that deliver a decent audio quality with good bass at that price. You won’t really be bothered by the highs sounding too shrill if you are not going to increase the volume to the fullest.

We would recommend it for only casual audio listening, it is not best for calls. However, The Boat Rockerz 400 does not have a lot of competition at the price of Rs. 1,399.
