Sony WF-C500 Review : With the removal of headphone jacks in the new age of mobile phones the need and use of the TWS has become inevitable, The wireless earbud market is growing too fast and TWS is now a major source of sound entertainment and connectivity. The truly wireless earbuds not only look trendy but also avoid that messy interaction with tangled wires.

The wireless earbuds market is not short of competition, but SONY is one brand that has a history of making remarkable stereo products, when it comes to sound quality, the big giant always stands out. But in the crowded market of TWS, does it bring justice with its all-new Sony WF-C500, well let’s check it out.

Sony WF C500 Review

Sony WF-C500 Review

For all the music lovers out there, these budget earbuds from Sony come with a clear, neat design with a proper fit that you require with decent sound quality and a fine control app. But even with its good build quality and fit, it lacks the features like active noise cancellation. also Sony WF-C500 supports both AAC & SBC and uses Bluetooth 5.0.

But this segment is highly competitive and has a slight fewer of features and you could lose a potential customer. Sony has worked well to provide a good sound quality but also offers some sound latency here and there.

Battery Life

The WF-C500 can last for 10hr on a single charge, plus you get a 10hr charge from the case as well. Honestly, a 20hr battery life is largely common among its peers and it is not at all attractive at this price point. The earbuds provide a reminder for charging after every 10hr of usage, also the earbuds may discharge at different timings, so you can get multiple warnings during long hours of usage.

The orange LEDs on the buds illuminate while charging, with a similar LED found on the case indicating the amount of charge left. The WF-C500 comes with a small USB-A to USB-C cable with an absence of a power adapter and wireless charging. Though a quick 10 minutes charge can provide you with an hour of playback time.

Design and Build Quality

When it comes to design Sony has managed to keep it simpler and most importantly from a customer’s point of view, these pair of buds can be used for long hours without any hassle, the fit is so nice and perfect that you can easily workout wearing these wireless earbuds. The bean-shaped design is a perfect fit for the ears and doesn’t pull out now and then, making it a perfect commuting partner.

The WF-C500 lacks touch controls but a nice placement of push buttons in such a compact design is very easy to use, it also offers a mic for answering your calls, with the 5.4g weight per earbud the TWS feels so light and puts no pressure on all on the ears.

Sony WF C500 Build Quality and design

Just like the buds, the case is well built and looks like a long-lasting one. The buds fit in completely and charge accordingly. The WF-C500 comes in four different colors with elegant white and black Sony has also provided funky orange and vibrant green. The buds come with IPX4, which means some amount of water splashes and moisture due to sweat would not be a pain, but you do not want to drop these pair of earbuds into water.

Connectivity

The Sony WF-C500 uses Bluetooth 5.0 which is a kind of strange at this price point as many of its rivals have switched to BT 5.2, but it does not create much of a difference as the connectivity is smooth and it provides a reliable, stable wireless connection with simultaneous L/R Bluetooth transmission and is compatible with Android, IOS, PC and Mac with a swift pair connection.

The microphone exists on each bud which is omnidirectional, the sound quality is decent, you may hear a bit of noise from the background so it’s better to be at a quiet place before a call.

Sony WF-C500 Review : Sound Quality of WF-C500

Sony is considered as the synonym for sound in this industry. Let us find out how much justice Sony has done to its WF-C500 when it comes to audio quality.

Sony WF-C500 Sound Quality

WF-C500 comes with 5.8mm dynamic drivers, when it comes to Base the buds have a good amount of punch to them. Also, the mids are just pushed slightly, offering the detailing of every chord and string of a guitar providing a nice and clean sound. The same goes for treble, although some may find it a bit bright, especially when you listen to higher volumes.

After listing and experimenting with different types of music for hours, the WF-C500 passes our audio test. It is definitely an open-sounding earbud and throughout the testing we had no issues being able to tell from where each sound is coming from.

Sony Headphones Connect app

To enhance the audio quality on your WF-C500 you should definitely download this app as the earbuds lack an active noise cancellation feature. The app comes with a DSEE  (DIGITAL SOUND ENHANCEMENT ENGINE) feature which helps in avoiding any kind of compression in your audio and tries to make it sound close to studio quality. This app, to a certain extent, makes it up for the lack of aptX.

Sony WF-C500 Price

Now, this is a real hassle for both the companies and the customers. The customers want it all, Well At a price point of 5990 Rs the WF-C500 true wireless earbuds are a serious effort by Sony to enter a segment that is full of choices. This is a great price to buy a brand like Sony but you do have to settle down for less on some features.

So, should you buy Sony WF-C500?

Well, if you can avoid some misses from Sony at this price point, then these are an interesting buy and one can consider it as the sound quality is awesome and punchier than its peers with a good design and built quality.

Also, if you are a music lover and just want a comfortable pair of truly wireless earbuds that does not hinder your daily activities, then this is the one you should go for. But, if you are the one that wants an earbud that provides you with good voice calling support, then opt for something that gives you a better noise cancellation unlike WF-C500.

Sony WF-C500 Review Final Verdict

The price at which WF-C500 earbuds are offered is very competitive with many of the existing and new players offering the similar specs, so to stand out, one really has to place and market their product at the next level. However, Sony has done everything to squeeze the most out of these WF-C500 earbuds, but apart from the good sound quality, it has been unable to provide the extra features which the other brands are providing. The lack of active noise control, no transparency mode, and no pause when the buds are pulled out is a big miss. But on the flip side, these are a really great budget option from a brand like Sony.
