The Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra looks like a phone that changes a lot in how photos look and very little in how it looks from the front. Leaks point to a new 200MP main sensor, a dropped 3x telephoto, a new M16 OLED panel, and a screen that’s nearly identical to the S26 Ultra’s. Nothing is official yet, so treat all of it as rumor.
What do the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra leaks say about the cameras?

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S27 Ultra in early 2027, with a redesigned rear camera module and one fewer sensor than the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The camera is where nearly all of the leak activity is, so it’s the best place to start.
Warmer colors, better highlights, less noise
Tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) posted three processing changes on September 29, 2026. The first is a warmer color temperature instead of the cooler tones on previous Ultra models. That cool look is something Galaxy owners have complained about for years, so a shift would be noticeable.
The second is highlight control. Ice says the S26 Ultra sometimes struggles with small bright objects far away, such as tiny illuminated text or small light sources. The improvement is said to apply to both the main and 5x telephoto cameras. The third is cleaner shadows. Images should be smoother in low light, with less noise in dark areas.
Warmer isn’t automatically better. As one write-up points out, a warmer image is not automatically more accurate. I’d want to see side-by-side shots of skin tones and indoor lighting before getting excited.

The 3x telephoto is reportedly gone
This is the biggest hardware change. Ice Universe says Samsung plans to remove the dedicated 3x telephoto camera, so the phone jumps from the 1x main camera straight to the 50MP 5x telephoto. The main camera uses the ISOCELL HP6, essentially a Galaxy-customized version of the HPC sensor. The 5x telephoto sensor stays the same, and the aperture stays at f/2.9.
Earlier, a rival rumor claimed Samsung would swap the 5x for a 4x module with a larger 1/1.9-inch sensor. Ice says the S27 Ultra keeps the S26 Ultra’s 5x 1/2.52-inch module and called the 4x claim “100% false.” GSMArena argues the missing 3x won’t be felt much, given how good the 200MP main camera is at smaller zoom levels. That’s a reasonable guess, not a test result. Cropping a big sensor is not the same as a real lens, and the difference shows up in low light.
Is the camera island moving?
Probably. CAD renders show reshuffled camera positions, partly to refresh the look and partly to give magnetic accessories better clearance. The current Magnet Wireless Battery Pack has an awkward cutout to get around the S26 Ultra’s camera placement. GSMArena has also run a piece on conflicting reports about the positioning, so the final layout isn’t settled. [ADD: one line summarizing what the conflicting reports disagree on]
Will the S27 Ultra look different from the front?
Barely. Ice Universe shared what he says are S27 Ultra screen protectors and suggested the screen size, shape, and overall outline are extremely similar, so S27 Ultra and S26 Ultra protectors will likely be interchangeable. He called it possibly the smallest change in front display design between two consecutive Ultra flagships.
The headline is about design, not panel type. It says the form factor stays put. That fits a long pattern: Samsung has kept the same basic slab shape since the S10, and the Ultra has been refined rather than reinvented ever since.
The specs reported so far:
| Galaxy S26 Ultra | Galaxy S27 Ultra (rumored) | |
|---|---|---|
| Display size and resolution | 6.9-inch, 1,440 x 3,120 | Same overall size and shape |
| Panel | Current OLED with Privacy Display | Next-generation M16 OLED, with Privacy Display expected to return |
| Weight | 214g | 215g |
| Telephoto | 3x 10MP plus 5x 50MP | 5x 50MP only |
| Selfie camera | Not covered in leaks | 16MP, per leaks |
The M16 panel is the interesting part. My notes say it moves from 8-bit to 10-bit color depth. Devices Arena reports that the panel debuted on the iQOO 16, with a claimed 10,000 nits peak local brightness and 2,800 nits peak global brightness. It also consumes up to 30% less power and improves color accuracy. Those are the panel maker’s figures from the iQOO launch, not Samsung’s S27 specs.
One caution on the 10-bit claim: some S26 Ultra owner guides blame software-based 10-bit color dithering and the built-in Privacy Display for grainy text. A native 10-bit panel could help there, but that’s my inference. No one has tested it.

Other body details are small. There’s a bigger battery inside, attributed to better energy density. The S Pen stays on the left side, and so does the speaker. Samsung hasn’t given a capacity, and I won’t guess one.
What colors is the Galaxy S27 Ultra coming in?
Ice Universe’s latest exclusive lists the base color options as Black, Blue, Light Pink, and White. “Base” matters. Samsung usually adds online-only shades later, so expect more.
How reliable are these Galaxy S27 Ultra leaks?
Ice Universe has a good record on Samsung, but not a perfect one. Back in the spring, he reportedly floated the idea that a 200MP sensor would absorb the 3x focal length, which Gadget Hacks noted directly contradicts an earlier one from the same source. That’s a reason to treat specific claims as likely rather than locked.
Lesser-known accounts deserve more caution. Android Authority covered a claim from an unestablished X account that the phone gets updated Samsung Log and APV video with better dynamic range, and said it would treat those claims with caution. The same report says recording stays capped at 4K/120fps and 8K/30fps.
Then there’s what we don’t know. SamMobile notes there is still no word on whether it solves motion blur issues. PhoneArena also ran a report on Samsung addressing an S26 Ultra problem with the S27 Ultra.
The PhoneArena report covers the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s display-quality compromises caused by Privacy Display, including reduced resolution and poor viewing angles, and attributes the expected S27 Ultra improvement to an unnamed industry insider who discussed it in an X Q&A, making it an insider-based claim rather than an officially confirmed Samsung statement.
How much will the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra cost?
No credible price leak exists yet, and I couldn’t find one. The only anchor is what the S26 Ultra costs now. SamMobile reports the S26 Ultra now costs $1,400 in the US for 256GB, $1,600 for 512GB, and $2,000 for 1TB. In the UK, the same three tiers are £1,360, £1,530 and £1,860.
Those were hikes. In the US, the 256GB model was $1,300 before. Rising memory component costs are cited as the broader industry reason, though Samsung hasn’t confirmed one. If memory stays expensive, I wouldn’t bet on the S27 Ultra launching cheaper. Street prices run lower, though. Selectra found Amazon UK shipping the 256GB at £1,199 unlocked when it checked.
Should you wait for it?
If you care most about camera color and low-light shots, waiting until early 2027 makes sense, as long as you can live without a 3x lens. If you like the 3x range for portraits and don’t trust a cropped main sensor, the S26 Ultra is the last Ultra that keeps it. If you only want a bigger screen and S Pen, the leaks suggest you won’t miss much by buying now, and S26 Ultra deals should get better as the S27 approaches.
