VIVO X50 Pro Review : Unboxing experience

VIVO X50 Pro Review

Vivo X50 Pro is available on Amazon at ₹ 49,990.00. We ordered it and received it on 25th July. Vivo has always impressed us with its presentation of the retail boxes. The box looks premium and comes with a shiny finish with an ‘X’ pattern. In the box apart from the phone itself, we can see a high-quality in-ear headset and you also get some extra ear tips, a 33W fast charger with USB C, a silicone case for protection, and a dongle from USB C to 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone looks premium in hand due to the glass design and the gradient finish. Now lets directly dive into the design, build, and handling of this smartphone under Vivo X50 Pro Review.

Design, build, handling

Vivo x50 pro comes with a glass sandwich design just like some of the flagships do.it has an aluminum frame which makes it sturdy, the bezels are very thin and most of the front is covered by the massive 6.56” AMOLED screen. Despite having an innovative camera mechanism the camera bump is normal like any other smartphone and the smartphone wobbles a little.

X50 Pro Design, build, handling

The phone weighs 181g even with a big 4315 mAh battery and screen size. It measures 158.5 x 72.8 x 8 mm. the screen is OLED and supports HDR 10 plus, DCI P3 color gamut, 90 Hz refresh rate, and fast touch sensing.

The 32MP front camera is inside the punch-hole display which is smaller than usual and the earpiece is nearly invisible only you can see a long tiny hole on the top of the screen. The bottom part is busy with the USB C port, speaker grille, and a hybrid SIM tray. The upper part is empty and the 3.5mm headphone jack is missing like any other flagship.

The fingerprint sensor is just behind the screen, but its surface is not widespread, so you have to put your finger on the right place to unlock fast and accurate. You can also choose the face to unlock which is also faster but it is not so safe.

Talking of refresh rate the new ASUS ROG phone 3 at the same price gives a refresh rate of 144Hz with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 plus and 6000 mAh battery but with the massive gimbal camera mechanism in the Vivo x50 pro takes all that away.

The Vivo x50 pro comes in three different colors which are Alpha grey, Frost blue, and Glaze black. Both front and rear glasses are curved and the only thing to grip on is the thin aluminum body. But without any extra protection, the phone feels safe in hands while using. Also, due to the flattened top and bottom, the phone can stand upright as well as upside-down which is rare especially in slim phones.

The volume buttons along with the power button are on the left side of the phone. Coming to the cameras, most of the space is taken by the massive 48MP camera, beneath that is the 13MP portrait camera and 8MP ultrawide angle cameras are present. The final camera is the 8MP periscopic lens with a 5x optical zoom.

The Vivo x50 pro feels flagship in hand, the glass is of course slippery but the shape and aluminum frame gives the grip. The phone is built well and feels sturdy. The phone is not waterproof but the SIM tray has rubber lining but that does not mean it is waterproof and you should handle it with care.

The AMOLED screen with HDR 10 plus

The AMOLED screen with HDR 10 plus

The Vivo x50 comes with a superb AMOLED screen with extended 1080p resolution and round edges. The screen resolution is 2,376 x 1,080 pixels giving a sharp density of 398ppi. It supports 90Hz high refresh rate but you can switch between 60Hz and 90Hz. It supports Widevine L1 DRM which provides maximum video quality on all streaming platforms.

Talking of the brightness the screen is quite bright but not the best among most of the flagships but the minimum brightness is fine. It supports DCI P3 and sRGB colors so you can switch between normal, standard, and bright color modes.

Battery life and charging

Battery life and charging

The Vivo x50 pro holds a battery of 4315mAh with 33W fast charging which recharges the battery from 0% to 55% in just 30 minutes and to 100% in 70 minutes.

In standby, the battery lasts 88 hours long and during web browsing, it lasts 12 hours and during video playback, it can last up to 17 hours.

Speaker

Vivo X50 Pro top bottom

Vivo x50 pro has a single bottom-firing speaker. Its loudness is good but the quality of the speaker is poor. During the high and low notes, it does not performs well but the mid notes are everywhere to be heard.

Funtouch OS and other functions

It comes with Funtouch OS 10.5 and Android 10. The OS is much cleaner now and Vivo has removed all the iOS-like systems. The notification panel is now normalized like most of the phones, unlike the old Vivo ones which had I phone like system.

The app drawer is just like android 10 and the home screen is now much cleaner. The Funtouch OS is now much similar to that of Android 10. The phone has an always-on display feature that can be customized. It also has a dark mode for the entire UI.

Funtouch OS and other functions

There are two options for biometric security the first one is an under-display fingerprint scanner which works very fast but the size of the sensor is smaller than other sensors so accuracy depends on how perfectly you put your finger on top of the sensor.

There is also face recognition which is very much faster and recognizes your face in pitch dark rooms or places using phones bright display. But face recognition is not considered safest in terms of biometric security.

There is a bunch of gaming centered software. There is an Ultra game mode that can be turned on or off from the notification toggle. When you start a game with game mode on a game assistant window pops up showing you that everything is optimized now also there is a game sidebar which allows you to perform certain actions like screen recording, optimizations and so on.

Vivo’s funtouch OS provides many different customization options from its dedicated theme store where you will find various cool themes. Not only themes but you can change the wallpaper, icons, color scheme, fonts, and transition effects.

This new funtouch version is much cleaner and smoother than the previous ones except some apps which were iOS copies like imanager are still there but Vivo will soon get rid of these apps.

Performance

Vivo x50 pro comes packed with Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor which is a cheaper and mid-range processor, but it is good not the best one-off course. It is a 7nm processor with a built-in modem. It has an octa-core processor that comes with a1 plus 6 configurations. The prime core is clocked at 2.4GHz, a gold core at 2.2 GHz, and 6 cortex A55 based silver cores with a top speed of 1.8GHz.

It runs on Adreno 620 GPU. It has 8 GB of RAM and internal storage options are 128 GB and 256GB. Its score on AnTuTu 8 is 3,23,736 which is more than most of the midrange phones but you will find more phones with higher chipsets at the same price. But again it is a camera focused phone so the choice is yours. Also, it has a 90Hz refresh rate due to which the experience is smooth be it gaming or scrolling, etc.

Rear Cameras

It comes with a quad-camera setup where the primary camera is of 48MP with a 13MP portrait camera an 8MP telephoto camera and an 8MP ultrawide camera. There is a gimbal system in the main camera which helps in image and video stabilization. It comes with triple led dual-tone flash.

Vivo x50 pro gimble Camera

The main 48MP camera uses a SONY IMX598 custom sensor with Quad bayer color filter, pixel size is0.8µm, 25mm equivalent focal length, f/1.6 aperture size, PDAF. It is stabilized with a micro gimbal system and 3 times more stabilized than a normal OIS system. The camera performs excellently whether it be day or night. It saves in 16MP by default.

The ultrawide camera is 8MP sensor1/4.0”, with 1.12µm pixel size, aperture f/2.2, 16mm focal length, with AF and ultra macro. You can shoot macro photos from 2.5 cm close to the object or whatever you are shooting.

The 13MP camera is named a portrait camera by Vivo itself, it comes with an f/2.2 50mm lens and 2x optical zoom. The blur is nice and separates the object from the background very well.

The final one from the rear cameras is the 8MP camera with a periscope f/3.4 135mm lens which is for 5x optical zoom. For this camera four-axis, optical image stabilization is there for this camera. The images are clear enough and the colors are very real.

The camera app has various camera options. The image quality is excellent in daylight as well as at the night. The stabilization due to the gimbal system gives its result and the videos are smoother. The night mode is unbelievably excellent on this phone which takes about 3 seconds to click photo normally but if you want a more detailed one then you can go for the 10 seconds shooter.

The overall video recording experience is good it records 2160p at 60 fps from the main camera where the gimbal system is always available. There is also an EIS that is always on for the cameras which shoot at 30 fps. There is also an Ultra stable which is fixed at 1080p at 60fps.

Front Camera/ Selfie camera

Front Camera/Selfie camera

As we know Vivo’s selfie cameras have been excellent all the way from the past. The selfie camera is a 32MP shooter with an aperture size of f/2.45 and a 25mm wide lens. The focus is fixed. The front camera features a poser that shows the user different poses in which he/she can take a selfie. The dynamic range is low and also there is a lack of sharpness. It performs well in light but the image quality goes down in low light conditions.

Vivo X50 Pro Review : Conclusion

Overall the experience of the phone is good not the best at this price point as there are a lot of other phones available at the same price with higher chipsets and higher refresh rates but don’t get offended if it is your personal favorite and also I am not saying it is a bad choice. As mentioned earlier phones like Asus ROG 3, Oneplus 8, Oneplus 8pro, Realme x 50 pro, and Vivo’s own IQOO 3 5G are cheaper or are providing more than this just for a little price difference. So it depends on your priority that what you want to have. That’s it for Vivo X50 Pro Review, I hope you like our work.
