The new Amazon Kindle Colorsoft price starts at $289.99 for the 16GB model. The 32GB Signature Edition is $319.99. Digital Trends puts that at a $40 jump over the previous generation. Both models are preorders for now, with an October 28, 2026 ship date.
Here’s the catch for readers in India: I couldn’t find any sign of a local price or launch date yet. More on that below.
What is the Amazon Kindle Colorsoft price in 2026?

Amazon lists the Colorsoft with 16GB in Graphite from $289.99, and the 32GB Signature Edition in Graphite or Fig at $319.99 (Amazon, 2026). The previous generation sat lower. In 2025, Amazon introduced a 16GB Colorsoft at $249 and kept the Signature Edition at $279 (Tom’s Guide, 2025).
| Model | Storage | 2026 US price | Previous US price | Link to Buy |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kindle Colorsoft | 16GB | $289.99 | $249 | |
| Colorsoft Signature Edition | 32GB | $319.99 | $279 |
One wrinkle on dates. Techmymoney reports both models are listed for release on October 28, and CNN says the same about the preorder ship date. Gizmodo, though, says the Colorsoft models launch on Oct. 7. I’d trust the Amazon listing date you see when you order, since sources disagree.

What does the extra money buy?
Mostly a better screen and a thinner body. The display is completely redesigned and uses reverse printing technology for edge-to-edge color. Amazon says the light guide has nitride LEDs to boost color and brightness without washing out detail. Micro-deflectors in the light guide cut stray light and improve uniformity. That targets the uneven lighting some buyers noticed on the first Colorsoft.
Resolution hasn’t changed. You get 300 PPI for black-and-white text, dropping to 150 PPI in color mode (Digital Trends, 2026). Battery life is rated at up to 8 weeks. The monochrome Paperwhite is rated at up to 12 weeks. Color costs you roughly a month of standby, on paper.
On weight, the base Colorsoft is 204 grams and the Signature Edition is 229 grams. The Signature Edition adds the same features as the Paperwhite Signature Edition. Those are the aluminum housing, 32GB storage, an auto-adjusting front light, double-tap page turns, and pogo-pin dock charging.
Which one should you pick?
The $30 gap between the two is small. For that, you get double the storage, the auto light, and the aluminum body. Color comics and PDFs are bigger files than text novels, so 32GB gives you more room. If you mostly read paperbacks-in-digital-form, the 16GB model is plenty.
Is the Kindle Colorsoft available in India?
Not yet, as far as I can tell. Basic Kindle sales have begun in 19 listed markets, with Paperwhite and Colorsoft preorders rolling out there. India isn’t on that list, and Amazon hasn’t announced local prices or dates (Lapaas Voice, 2026). Price aggregators show a placeholder. Smartprix lists the Signature Edition as “Coming Soon” at an expected ₹23,990, but that’s a guess, and it appears to be based on older specs.
For context, the first Signature Edition launched at $279.99, which Croma converted to about Rs 23,500 in 2024. At today’s $319.99, expect a noticeably higher sticker price if it does come to India. Import duties and a grey-market markup would sit on top of that.
Is a Colorsoft worth it over a Paperwhite?
That depends on what you read. The new Paperwhite starts at $199.99, and its Signature Edition is $249.99 (Techmymoney, 2026). So color adds about $90 at the base tier and $70 at the Signature tier.
Reviewers were lukewarm on the first generation. Yahoo Tech’s review called it basically a Paperwhite Plus color, with lackluster colors. That was the older hardware, and the redesign is meant to address exactly that. I haven’t handled the 2026 unit, so I can’t say whether the colors look better in person.
My rule of thumb, from the numbers rather than from testing: pay for color if you read comics, manga, cookbooks or travel guides. If you mostly read text novels, the cheaper Paperwhite does the job and lasts longer between charges. The covers in your library grid look nicer in color, but that’s a lot of money for a nicer grid.

The real cost with accessories
The sticker price isn’t the full bill. Amazon’s new accessories include the $34.99 Kindle Click Bluetooth remote, a $79.99 Page-Turn Cover with physical buttons, and a $59.99 Charging Dock. CNN did the math: at least $330 for a Kindle with buttons, which is a lot when the Libra Colour is $70 less (CNN Underscored, 2026). Kobo is the obvious rival to cross-shop.
Should you wait for a Kindle Colorsoft discount?
Probably, if you’re not in a hurry. The previous Colorsoft got cut often. Amazon US dropped it to $224.99 from $279.99 during a book sale (TechRadar). Best Buy later sold it for $179.99 in a Prime Day flash sale. Those were the older model’s prices, not the 2026 ones. There’s no discount history yet on the new generation, and a new launch rarely gets cut right away. Watch Prime Day and Black Friday, though.
Also consider the leftover stock. If retailers clear the 2025 Colorsoft cheaply and you don’t care about the flush screen, that’s the budget route. The new model’s main fixes are cosmetic and optical, not a new chip. Gizmodo notes the underlying chip, storage, and color e-paper tech are the same as before.
