Shure Aonic 50 Review : So at ₹24,999, it’s expected that Shure Aonic 50 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones should compete at par with the best. Being that Shure Aonic is known for its audiophile-grade earphones and headphones; their products could only interest purists and audiophiles.

However, the company has gone a little further with its recently released Aonic lineup with features such as Active Noise Cancellation, wireless connectivity, and Bluetooth Codec support.

One can conclude that Sony WH-1000XM4, Bose QuietComfort 35 II  and Sennheiser Momentum 3 a run for their money. But can the same be said of the performance?

Unlike its previous products, the company has put so much effort into making it better, however, Shure Aonic 50 comes with nothing fancy. Everything is controlled manually which makes it kind of old-fashioned.

It’s quite expensive and looks simple, but the look and feels makes it worth the money. – Well-built and beautiful.

Also, it supports multiple Codecs like aptx HD, aptx low latency, audio, Sony LDAC, AAC, Qualcomm aptx etc.

Design and Specification

Shure Aonic 50 is an over-ear headphone, available in brown and black colors. And the ear casing is made of plastic, which contributes to the solid feels. On the outer part is the Shure Logo.

One noticeable thing about Shure Aonic 50 is the stitches on the headband that give a touch of class to the appearance. Also, there are series of detects on the band just above the ear cup for precision.

Though Shure Aonic 50 Wireless Noise Cancellation comes out bulky, it’s comfortable once you get the fitting right.

On the right side of the earcup houses the pairing/power button; which also double for call management, playback, track navigation, and voice assistants. The right panel also fits the toggling switch for ANC/environment mode.

Though, It’s expected that the USB-C port should be on the left side, but it’s not. The charging port is also on the right-side port, while the jack for the headphone cable that comes with it is located on the left side panel.

Each dedicated buttons feels nice at hand, but it’s hard to know which button is for what operation without looking at it. Hence, one can mistakenly press the wrong button until your fingers memorize where everything is.

Inside each earcup, a 50mm Neodymium dynamic transducer delivers a frequency range of 20Hz to 22kHz. Furthermore, the headphones support AAC, SBC Bluetooth Codecs, AptX, and compatible with Bluetooth 5.0.

Performance and Battery Life

So what does using Shure Aonic 50 feels like? Is it worth the money and how long can the battery last? Shure Aonic 50 has a touch of features that makes it better than average and like much of other headphones with ANC system, the Aonics creates some high-frequency hiss which can be said to be similar to faint white noise.

Talking of the active noise cancellation, it performs excellently when using in a quiet room, but the same can’t be said of the normal mode. Regardless, the ANC does a good job of keeping down low frequencies as experience on trains or planes, but only in Max mode.

For its sound system, Shure Aonics 50 offers something good. From high-resolution tracks to compressed streaming audio, you’d get a perfect output. But note that the source material used would have an impact on the performance.

The ANC system is above average but not excellent. If noise cancellation is your priority, you might want to consider wireless headphones like Sony WH-1000XM4. If you are looking for wireless headphones with a more decent ANC, consider the Sennheiser Momentum 3.

Furthermore, with a battery life of up to 30 hours, it’s safe to say that the Shure Aonic 50 battery life is exceptional, which makes it ideal for commuting to work, working from home, traveling, listening to music etc. without worries of an unnecessary shutdown.

One other thing done right by the manufacturer is the microphone; it offers strong intelligibility. And on phone calls or recording text, the sound can clearly be received.

Conclusion

Shure Aonic 50 wireless headphones offer a good sound output but lack bass. However, with the app’s EQ, you can dial up things a little. It’s detailed and analytical; made to do just one thing that matters, which is to get the best out of audio tracks as much as possible.

The Price may seem high but trust me last year when i published this article, the price was around Rs. 32,500 and just in a year it is around 10k less. So, Shure Aonic 50 Wireless headphones are one of the best headphone and available at the best possible price.

All of that said, a major drawback is a need for the high-resolution and binaural audio track to get the best out of it and lack of flexibility in the ANC system – There are no settings to control the level of cancellation.

No doubt that Shure Aonic 50 Wireless headphones offer so much as a premium headphone, but you need to be sure of what you want.
