10 Devastating Environmental Issues That Need More Attention

Devastating Environmental Issues : Hello reader, I hope you are having a good day and you are safe at your home or wherever you are. I think you are aware of the fact that environmental pollution and its destruction had affected our lives a lot. Daily, we come across many news articles telling us about our environment and the destruction of ozone due to many harmful materials, chemicals, and many human activities.

Our environment and this whole world’s atmosphere have changed a lot in some decades, and this is mainly due to increased human activities everywhere. Our earth is going through a lot due to us and this is the time for us to take some action. If we don’t take some serious action now, our future generations are going to suffer a lot. The resources used in the engineering industry and the chemicals flooded into the rivers and other water bodies are making this place worse than hell.

Our mother earth has different kinds of ecosystems, be it land, water, river, or ocean it consists of all living organisms, plants, rocks water bodies, and many things, and all these ecosystems are polluted to a higher extent. What do you think are the serious environmental issues for our earth and who is behind all this?

The answer to the question is “us”. The cause of all these environmental issues and resource depletion are us and no one else. If you don’t know about all these issues then you will know after reading this post. Today I am here to tell you about the 10 environmental issues that are disastrous and may lead to the extinction of a lot of animal species along with some serious damage to humans. Let’s see the 10 destructive environmental issues.

10 Devastating Environmental Issues

10 Devastating Environmental Issues That Need More Attention

1. Air, water, and land pollution

Most of us know what is pollution and how it is affecting the earth and our lives but none of us wants to deal with its harmful effects and neither of us is trying our best to stop it.

Water pollution is mostly caused by oil spills, ocean dumping, and industrial waste. Industrial waste also causes soil pollution. Air pollution is majorly caused by gases emitting from vehicles, burning of fossil fuels, burning plastic and other kinds of wastes, and hydraulic fracturing

2. Climate change

All of us have noticed some rapid and unexpected climate change almost everywhere. It is nothing but a result of various human activities which lead to casualties like global warming, greenhouse effect. Summers are extra hot and winters are colder. Its harmful effects can be seen not only in the weather but it has other harmful effects like melting of ice caps and glaciers, the introduction of a new disease, and extinction of a lot of plants which are important for human survival.

3. Deforestation and logging

The human population is increasing at an extremely high rate which means we need a lot more space and for that, we cut a lot of trees for agriculture, industrial and urban uses. Every year large groups of trees are cut and wiped out. Deforestation has its own impact on the environment, it can lead to floods, decreasing the quality of soil, climate imbalance, wildlife extinction, global warming, and many such dangerous environmental issues.

4. Overpopulation

Overpopulation is the biggest cause of our situation nowadays. Overpopulation has led to overexploitation, resource depletion, deforestation, gender imbalance, and all types of pollution. Governments of many countries have taken various steps to control the increasing population, but it is a very hard thing to control and it is already going out of control.

5. Acid rain

You probably have heard about acid rain or you have read it somewhere or studied. It is just rain which has an acidic nature. It is due to the pollutants present in the atmosphere. Acid rain falls on the ground in different ways like rain, snow, fog, etc. it occurs due to the emission of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide from various sources like vehicles, erupting volcanoes, fire, bacterial decomposition, lightening, and rotting vegetation.

It mostly affects aquatic life, forests, public health, and various buildings and monuments for example the TAJ MAHAL.

6. Ozone layer depletion

The ozone layer is a part of our earth’s atmosphere which lies 20 30 km above ground level. It contains O3 molecule which is a naturally occurring molecule. The ozone layer is a gift to us as it absorbs 95% 99% of the harmful UV rays emitted by the sun. It is present in the stratosphere. In the last few years or decades, human activities have made the ozone thinner. The main cause is the release of Chlorofluorocarbons(CFCs) which release chlorine and bromine. Substances such as CFCs, halons, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, HCFCs(hydrochlorofluorocarbons), HBFCs(hydro Bromo fluorocarbons) and methyl bromide, etc. are the main ozone-depleting agents.

7. Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering sounds very cool and scientific, but only when you are unaware of its drawbacks. Biotechnology and genetic engineering are no doubt the best achievements for humans, but they have a more harmful effect than a helping one. It includes genetic modifications of food, human and animal organs which have a very harmful effect on food humans and animals. The food which is modified may lead to diseases and the organs may not completely be compatible.

8. Water crisis

From the beginning, we have studied the water resources and the percentage of water available for us to drink. Only 2.5% of water is freshwater, out of which 1% is trapped in glaciers and ice fields. Only we can access about0.0007% of the freshwater. We waste water as if it is unlimited and it is never-ending. On the other hand, some cities are already running out of water resources due to water pollution, loss of groundwater, climate change, etc. Water shortage may lead to many kinds of diseases, deaths, war, and many other problems.

9. Natural resource depletion

All resources which are available now are not renewable, and if we don’t take action now, we are going to run out of resources soon. As predicted by the experts we will run out of these resources in the upcoming 50 years. These resources when used extremely can lead to an increase in air pollution and global warming. So it’s time to understand nature.

10. Desertification

Desertification is a term used to describe land which has degraded due to human activities like deforestation, urbanization, overgrazing by animals, and climate change. Desertification is also a serious issue that may lead to poverty, hunger, poor water quality, sudden floods, etc.

There are many other issues but we have talked about only the 10. After reading this post you may be able to link all these issues and you will find one common thing, which is ‘Humans’. We have real issues with our minds, we don’t understand simple things and let things go on how they are. But there is time, we can still make our future better than what experts are predicting.
