Break the Plastic Habit : Previously we talked about how plastic has surrounded us and what plastic products we can replace now. Today we will talk about how to get rid of the plastic that we are so used to. Even if we know how much plastic is there in our surroundings and the best alternatives of plastic, it is not an easy task to get rid of them.

In order to get rid of the plastic items and decrease the pollution by plastic, we should demand nonplastic bags from the shops or the companies we are buying goods from, it may help in the decline of the blind and high rate of plastic production.

We can start with the most simple and easy way to break the plastic habit, which will give us more confidence to do the same with other habits. Let’s see how we can break the plastic habit.

  1. When going to grocery shops we should take our own reusable cloth bags instead of the plastic they provide. Cloth bags are easy to carry and they can also be recycled. Every year trillions of plastic bags are used which leads to a lot of pollution.
  2. Instead of using plastic bottles, we should buy ourselves a stainless steel bottle which can be reused. Some bottles also have insulation in them so you can buy them to keep your drinks as you want.
  3. When buying beverages don’t use the plastic straws instead use the glass straws. We can also bring our own cups to the coffee shops instead of using a plastic cup and the lid which comes with it.
  4. We use shampoo and liquid soaps that contain plastic and also come in plastic bottles. Instead, we can use shampoo bars and bar soaps which are better than these. We should also stop buying shampoos that come in sachets. The powder we use comes mostly in plastic bottles but there are some companies that pack powders in other containers.
  5. When buying books, notebooks, CD cases, folders, and office labels, choose only those products which can be recycled after use. You can choose goods made from cardboard or recycled cardboard which can be recycled further.
  6. Eliminate your plastic toothbrush and start using recyclable toothbrushes. There are toothbrushes made from bamboo and other such recyclable materials.
  7. Whenever you are buying dry products or honey and oil try using metal containers, glass containers, and unlined paper for wrapping.
  8. You can remove chairs and tables made of plastic which are weaker, in place of them you should use metal chairs and tables.

These were the things you can start doing to break the plastic habit and its products. You should start with the things which are easy for you, not the ones you are not able to do at first, because it may lead to giving up what you started. But slowly you have to break the habits before the plastic becomes unbeatable.
